Lighting For Barn Conversions
Barn conversions are a popular property style often found in more rural areas and are used for both workplaces and homes. Barn conversions boast character and often use industrial and/or natural materials to create a rustic style. They usually have grand open rooms with large, pivoted ceilings which are perfect for adding statement lighting to. Lighting can make or break a room so it is extremely important to select the correct light fittings, especially in a space where they can create a great impact and be a focal point.
When searching for lighting for barn conversions, people are often unsure where to begin as they aren't sure what size or style to go for to suit their room or how much light is required to light the room adequately. This is where we can help. You may find useful information in this article that will help you figure out what you need to look for or alternatively, you can get in touch with our sales team who would be more than happy to assist you in finding the perfect lights to suit your barn conversion property.
At WT Lighting we supply a wide range of lighting products that are suitable for all rooms in barn conversions including; living spaces, bedrooms, staircases, kitchens and hallways. Barn conversions often have vaulted ceilings and are complete with wooden beams. Vaulted ceilings are usually very high which means you need a lighting product that features a large drop. Rooms with vaulted ceilings are also usually relatively large meaning the light fitting also needs to be of a good size so that it doesn't look lost. When searching for a light, you also need to consider whether you would like the light to be a statement piece in the room or whether you would like the light to blend in and not draw too much attention. As barn conversions feature rustic materials, most people also want their light to be of a similar style and in-keeping with the design and decor of the room. We offer a range of lights that are complete with a wooden finish and also have a designated collection to rustic and industrial lighting which consists of lights suitable for barn conversions.
How To Light a Barn Conversion
When it comes to lighting your barn conversion, you firstly need to decide whether you require a good practical light output, an ambient soft glow or a mixture of both.
If you require a good light output we would recommend choosing a lighting fixture that takes multiple light bulbs with an E27 lamp holder. This gives you a wide selection of light bulbs to choose from, ranging from 40W (470 lumens) equivalent, all the way up to 200W (2000 lumens) equivalent, per light bulb. We say 'equivalent' as everything is now LED which will use just a fraction of the power whilst still emitting the same light output, making them extremely energy efficient.
If you would prefer to have a soft, warm glow, we offer a wide selection of decorative filament light bulbs that are perfect for creating a cosy feel, ideal in barn conversions. The range includes light bulbs that still give out a reasonable light output, equivalent to around an old 60W (806 lumens) but are much warmer and more subtle. This means they will still produce enough light to complete everyday tasks without being over the top or dazzling.
If you would like the best of both worlds, you can use a mixture of lamps in different fittings. For example, you could use decorative but bright light bulbs in your main lighting fixtures and have wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps around to be used when you just want mood lighting. You can also put your light onto a dimmer switch so you can tone the light down when the brightest setting is not required.
