Lighting For Sloped and Vaulted Ceilings
If you are looking to add a light fitting to a room with a sloped or vaulted ceiling, it can seem like a tricky task at first as there are several factors to consider. At WT Lighting we have the answers to your questions and can help to assist you in finding the perfect lighting fixture for your room, whilst providing useful guides and information to make your search a lot easier.
If you have a room with a vaulted ceiling, the likelihood is that you have a large ceiling height and are looking for a large light to hang as a feature to create the wow-factor. As the ceiling comes to a pitch, you may have limited space to install a large ceiling plate which may limit your choice of light fitting to something that hangs from a smaller ceiling plate. If you fall in love with a cluster pendant light that hangs from a large ceiling plate, we do have options that may allow you to install it in your room.
Firstly, you could get a joiner to build a frame to fit below your pitch to take the size of ceiling plate required (example image below).
Secondly, we offer adaption kits to reduce the size of the plate that fixes to the ceiling, allowing you to suspend the larger ceiling plate lower (example image below).
We offer a large range of statement lights that feature a small ceiling plate and hang from a single chain or suspension. This means they can be installed in the small, flat section at the very top of the pitch or even on the slope of the ceiling itself. If installed on the slope, the weight of the light fitting combined with gravity will automatically balance the light out so that it hangs straight. At WT Lighting we offer an extensive selection of light fixtures that feature a single chain and small ceiling plate whilst still boasting a large pendant to stand out in any room. Most of our hanging pendant lights are available in a wide range of sizes meaning there is sure to be something suitable for your space.
It is also important to consider the drop that is required of the light fitting. Vaulted ceilings are often very high which means your chosen light will need to have a certain size drop to fit the space and not look lost. Most of our large pendant lights feature large drops that can be adjusted on installation, however if the drop is not quite big enough for your space, please get in touch as we can often make alterations so that the light is suitable for your room and ceiling height.
Vaulted ceilings can be found in many settings. You may have a large hallway entrance that spans two floors where you require a lighting fixture with a drop of up to 5 meters or you may have a vaulted ceiling in a living space within a barn conversion where you require a large, industrial pendant light to fill the space. There are several styles and room types, all of which have different requirements so here at WT Lighting we do our very best to offer a huge selection of lighting options to suit all rooms, styles, sizes and tastes. We offer modern, traditional, industrial and crystal options in a range of colour finishes allowing you to match or compliment the rest of your interior decor style.
What are the best lights for sloped ceilings?
The best light for a sloped ceiling will be determined by what kind of output you require from the light. If you are looking to add a cosy, ambient output to a living space then a decorative pendant light is best suited. If you require a good light output to serve a practical purpose, for example in a kitchen, then spotlights or track lights are a great option.
How do spotlights work in a sloped ceiling?
If you wish to add spotlights to a sloped ceiling, you are best choosing a spotlight that features a tiltable head so that you can direct the light downwards or to any space that requires light. Spotlights often send a beam of the light so it is important that you opt for a tiltable spotlight so that the light can be directed into the room.
If you are looking to add a decorative lighting fixture over an island or table, you can opt for a linear bar pendant that features individual suspensions that can each be adjusted to suit the placement on the sloped ceiling. This means the bar ceiling plate may be installed on an angle, but the suspensions can still each be adjusted to hang level over the kitchen island or dining room table. We also offer a range of ceiling lights that feature a telescopic rod. These also often feature a ball joint so they can be hung level if positioned on a slope.
At WT Lighting we also offer a bespoke service where we can make a light fixture suitable for your room. We can make adjustments to pendants, kitchen island lights and chandeliers so they perfectly fit your space as well as offering bespoke bars and brackets to enable you to use a light fixture that you may not have been able to as standard.
