G9 LED Light Bulbs: An Overview & Options Available

G9 LED light bulbs are compact, bi-pin bulbs that are widely used in decorative and functional lighting. Known for their energy efficiency and long lifespan, they serve as modern replacements for traditional halogen G9 bulbs.

What Is a G9 LED Bulb?

A G9 bulb features two loop-style pins spaced 9mm apart—hence the name. Traditionally used with halogen technology, G9 LEDs now provide the same brightness with a fraction of the energy consumption. They're especially popular in:

  • Chandeliers

  • Pendant lights

  • Desk lamps

  • Under-cabinet lighting

  • Wall sconces

Benefits of G9 LED Bulbs

  • Energy-efficient (up to 90% less power than halogen)

  • Long-lasting (typically 15,000–30,000 hours)

  • Low heat output

  • Cooler operation = safer use in enclosed fixtures

  • Variety of colour temperatures and dimmable options

Options Available

1. Wattage & Brightness

G9 LEDs usually range from 1.5W to 5W, equivalent to 10W to 60W halogen bulbs. Check the lumens to compare brightness (e.g., 300–500 lumens for most home use).

2. colour Temperature

  • Warm White (2700K–3000K): Cozy, yellowish light ideal for living rooms and bedrooms.

  • Cool White (4000K–4500K): Neutral white, great for kitchens and work areas.

  • Daylight (5000K–6500K): Bright white/blue light for task lighting or high-clarity areas.

3. Dimmable vs. Non-Dimmable

  • Dimmable bulbs offer adjustable brightness but need compatible dimmer switches.

  • Non-dimmable bulbs are often more affordable and suitable for fixed-light fixtures.

4. Shape and Size

  • Standard capsule shape: Most common for retrofit applications.

  • Mini G9 LED: Shorter bulbs that fit in tight fixtures.

  • Silicone-coated or ceramic designs: For better heat dissipation and appearance.

5. Voltage

Most G9 LEDs operate on 220–240V (Europe) or 110–130V (North America) mains power. Some specialty versions run on low voltage—check compatibility before purchase.

6. CRI (colour Rendering Index)

A higher CRI (80–90+) means better colour accuracy, useful in areas where colour perception matters (e.g., art studios, dressing rooms).
