How Track Heads Work
Each track head has a track adapter (or connector) that fits into the track. Inside the track are electrical conductors that run the full length, carrying power from a single source. When you insert and twist the track head into place, its adapter makes contact with these conductors, delivering power to the light without the need for extra wiring.
Depending on your system, track heads can be compatible with:
-
Single circuit tracks (all lights on one switch)
-
Three circuit tracks (individually controlled circuits on the same track)
Installing Track Heads After Wiring
Once your track is installed and wired to a power supply, you can easily add, remove, or reposition track heads — no need to switch off power or rewire anything. This is dieal if you want to add additional track spots to your track after it has been powered up.
Here’s how to add a track head after wiring:
-
Turn off the power at the switch for safety.
-
Align the track head’s adapter with the track slot.
-
Insert the head into the track.
-
Twist or lock it in place (depending on the system).
-
Turn power back on and test the light.
This flexibility means you can adjust your lighting layout anytime, whether you're changing a room's layout, spotlighting new artwork, or modifying a retail display.
